The Women’s Help Center (WHC) in Johnstown, Pennsylvania is a domestic violence (DV) shelter offering DV services for men, women, and children in Cambria and Somerset counties.  The WHC strives to end DV through empowerment, support, and education.  We are trauma-based, and survivor centered.

Open Positions

Program Coordinator – Full Time

Are you interested in working to help victims of domestic violence and playing an instrumental part in the success of the Women’s Help Center?  Are you good at and enjoy managing people?  The Program Coordinator position is the job for you!  The successful candidate in this position works closely with the Executive Director and oversees the Shelter and prevention education programs that take place across both counties.  This position facilities new trainings for employees with the Community Education instructor and assumes supervisory and decision-making functions in the absence of the Executive Director.  Staff management experience is a must in this position.  A minimum high school diploma or equivalent and a bachelor’s degree in public relations, social services, case management, or a related field is preferred.

Community Education and Volunteer/Intern Coordinator – Full Time

Are you outgoing and interested in networking and training the aspects of domestic violence to others in the local community?  Are you interested in having FUN at your job?  The Community Ed/Volunteer/Intern position is right for you!  The right candidate will attend community seminars and functions as needed including outreach events held in conjunction with other non-profit organizations, as well as attend media events.  The candidate will recruit volunteers for work at the Center and train new staff.  The Community Ed Coordinator works independently on the yearly ANGEL program, a major fundraiser for the Center each year that brings schools, organizations, and businesses together with the common goal of raising funds and awareness for domestic violence over the holiday season.  A high school diploma or equivalent is required with a bachelor/master degree preferred.  Experience in women’s issues, training coordination, marketing, and domestic violence work preferred.

Prevention Educator (Children) – Full Time

Do you love children?  Would you like to work with our Molly Mouse character to teach kids the basics of hygiene, safety from strangers, and all-around good health habits?  You’d LOVE the Prevention Educator for Children position!  The successful candidate in this position works with elementary schools, preschools, and day cares and presents the Molly Mouse program with the Center’s character actor who plays Molly.  The successful candidate will perform at live events as well as in programs over Zoom or recorded programs for presentations in the schools.  A minimum high school diploma or equivalent and a bachelor’s degree in public relations, social services, case management, or a related field is preferred. Experience with children and public speaking is preferred.

Child/Teen Counselor – Full Time

Do you want to make a difference in a child or teen’s life who is going through issues and problems?  Can you reach out to kids as an advocate?  If so, you would love this position as a counselor to children and teens in trouble.  The successful candidate will work in area schools and offer both individual and group counseling to children and teens in need.  There is the option of individual counseling in the office, as well.  The Child Teen Counselor works with local area schools in setting up programs and outreach events to talk about healthy relationships and peer support.  A minimum high school diploma or equivalent and a bachelor’s degree in public relations, social services, case management, or a related field is preferred.

Victim Outreach and Safety Case Manager – Full Time

Do you care about helping victims of domestic violence and are you interested in seeing them succeed?  Then this is the position for you!  This position works extremely closely with our DV clients while they are housed in our Shelter and continue working closely with them to achieve their goals as they exit shelter and start a new and safe life in the community.  The Safety Case manager works with housing agencies to assist in finding affordable, long-term housing for our clients, as well as connects them with other service agencies in the area.  The manager also joins and attends meetings of various agencies in the area with the same purpose of safety for our clients as they grow into different, productive lives.  A minimum high school diploma or equivalent and a bachelor’s degree in public relations, social services, case management, or a related field is preferred.

Shelter Case Manager – Full Time

Are you good with people and have a caring heart?  Do you like to help people in need?  Then this full-time position with the hours of 4 p.m. to 12 midnight Monday-Friday is for you.  The Shelter Case Manager works closely with our clients in shelter by counseling, by setting and discussing goals, planning activities for both clients and their children while in shelter and advocating for victims for housing and with other agencies in the area.  Sensitivity to DV victims and their children along with an understanding of those in need of any of our services are a must and hugely important for the success of our clients.  A minimum high school diploma or equivalent and a bachelor’s degree in public relations, social services, case management, or a related field is preferred.

Direct Service Worker – Part Time

Do you need flexible hours but still want to make a difference in the lives of domestic violence victims and survivors in our area?  The part-time Direct Service Worker position will be great for you.  This position is mainly night and weekend shifts of 4 pm to midnight or midnight to 8 am and is great for anyone with the ability to work different hours.  Our DSW workers mainly monitor the Center’s shelter residents (men, women, and children) throughout the late afternoon and evening hours, and well as make sure there are no issues at the Center itself.  The DSW conducts numerous shelter intakes and works closely with police departments are securing safe transportation to Shelter ad confidentiality of all shelter residents.  The DSW also offers referral services to any clients who may contact via the hotline and are not specifically a domestic violence victim.

The Women’s Help Center offers a competitive salary and benefit package for full-time staff that includes medical, vision and dental care, life insurance, and short-term disability coverage, all of which are at NO cost to the employee for  coverage.  The agency offers a 401K program with employer match, and generous vacation, sick, and personal time off.  The right candidate will find themselves part of an amazing team in a fast-paced client-centered work environment with an emphasis on care and support for staff.  Once hired, staff must complete a 40-hour training program and participate in ongoing training program.

 

For part-time staff, paid time off is a provided benefit.
