The Women’s Help Center (WHC) in Johnstown, Pennsylvania is a domestic violence (DV) shelter offering DV services for men, women, and children in Cambria and Somerset counties.  The WHC strives to end DV through empowerment, support, and education.  We are trauma-based, and survivor centered.

Open Positions

Legal Advocate – Full Time

Are you interested in working to help victims of domestic violence and playing an instrumental part in the success of the Women’s Help Center?  Are you good at assisting individuals and providing support for them as they work through the criminal justice and legal system?  The Legal Advocate position is the job for you!  The successful candidate in this position works closely with survivors, assists in filing Protection From Abuse (PFA) orders, provides accompaniment to court hearings, and provides systems advocacy.   A minimum high school diploma or equivalent and a bachelor’s degree in public relations, social services, case management, or a related field is preferred.

Direct Service Worker – Part Time

Do you need flexible hours but still want to make a difference in the lives of domestic violence victims and survivors in our area?  The part-time Direct Service Worker position will be great for you.  This position is mainly night and weekend shifts of 4 pm to midnight or midnight to 8 am and is great for anyone with the ability to work different hours.  Our DSW workers mainly monitor the Center’s shelter residents (men, women, and children) throughout the late afternoon and evening hours, and well as make sure there are no issues at the Center itself.  The DSW conducts numerous shelter intakes and works closely with police departments are securing safe transportation to Shelter ad confidentiality of all shelter residents.  The DSW also offers referral services to any clients who may contact via the hotline and are not specifically a domestic violence victim.

Volunteer Shelter Support 

If you have even a few hours a week of your time to give to make a difference in the lives of domestic violence survivors, we would love to have you as part of our team!  Volunteers opportunities include providing essential support at the shelter answering phones, providing resources, and giving support to survivors.  Volunteers are needed during the day, evenings/nights, and weekends. 

 

Volunteer opportunities also include assisting with activities like fundraising and community events!

The Women’s Help Center offers a competitive salary and benefit package for full-time staff that includes medical, vision and dental care, life insurance, and short-term disability coverage, all of which are at NO cost to the employee for  coverage.  The agency offers a 401K program with employer match, and generous vacation, sick, and personal time off.  The right candidate will find themselves part of an amazing team in a fast-paced client-centered work environment with an emphasis on care and support for staff.  Once hired, staff must complete a 40-hour training program and participate in ongoing training program.

 

For part-time staff, paid time off is a provided benefit.
